While you read, why not listen to this song, The Norwegian Elkhound, by Nancy Simmonds. You can find more of her songs at musicaltails.com.

This website

This website is the host for e-magazines especially for Norwegian Elkhound enthusiasts or “Elkaholics” as I often refer to them. I hope this website will host a library of editions primarily for the Norwegian Elkhound, Grey and will later incorporate other members of the Spitz family.

A little background about myself; my name is Wendy Sharman and with my husband Michael we have been owned by the breed since the early 70’s. Our involvement has been with owning, showing and breeding and our registered Kennel Club and FCI Affix is Naraena. We are both Championship Show judges. We have a long-term connection with the UK breed club, the Norwegian Elkhound Club of Great Britain, where Michael was Treasurer for 30 years and is proud to be their Patron. I served on the Committee for 23 and instigated the first Elkhound News Magazine for the Club in 1980 that continues to thrive today.

In 2003 I proposed to the UK breed clubs that the breed should be known as Norwegian Elkhound instead of Elkhound as it had previously been known in the UK. This change was approved by the two breed clubs and the Breed Council and put forward to the Kennel Club for their approval. I wanted the name to reflect the Country of Origin and I am delighted to say that it was fully approved.

In September 2015 I organized the first Norwegian Elkhound World Congress for many, many years and it was held in the Netherlands and attended by delegates from the USA, United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands. Sadly delegates from Norway could not come at the last minute due to devastating floods in their area. The event was a huge success and our Speakers from Norway, United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands did a grand job.

By using the navigation tabs above, you can navigate to the bookcase and from there you can click on the edition that you would like to read and voila away you go. Each magazine will be in the form of a flipbook.

The first edition of the Norwegian Elkhound e-Magazine will be published in October 2021 and any advertising space will be sponsored by donations to the UK Elkhound Rescue Fund, a Registered Charity.

News about the deadline for the next edition can be found in the latest published e-Magazine on the Editoral page or by visiting the Bookcase.

We all need to keep up with innovation and this form of publication is a nod to the 21st Century, that I hope readers will enjoy and in turn provide interesting submissions for future editions.
